With the joint dedication of Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese and international specialists in kidney diseases and urology, the Journal of Integrative Nephrology and Andrology has finally published its first issue after 1 year's preparation.
Kidney diseases and andrological diseases that mainly involve the urinary system are frequently encountered in clinical practice, and the incidence is inclined to increase over the years. With the rapid development of basic medical sciences such as modern molecular biology, immunology, genetics, and pharmacology in recent years, the etiology, pathogenesis, and pathophysiology of diseases are becoming recognized; the innovation of modern techniques such as ultrasonography, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, three-dimensional imaging, as well as the evolution of intraluminal diagnosis and treatment modalities have contributed to the progress in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Therefore, medical specialists on renal and andrological diseases are urged to comprehend and master the novel theory and techniques in this field; ,,, however, relevant papers are scattered on Chinese and international comprehensive journals, and a specialized journal that integrates the clinical and basic medical researches on renal and andrological diseases has not yet been released. This circumstance goes ill with the development of clinical and basic medical investigations of renal and andrological diseases in China, and is also unfavorable to the academic exchanges between Chinese and international scholars.
Based on the above background and academic needs, this specially designated journal that aims to promote the clinical and basic medical researches on renal and andrological diseases, as well as to improve academic exchange between medical specialists, is now inaugurated. This project is initiated by Prof. Peng Wen (Department of Nephrology, Putuo Hospital, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine), Prof. Run Wang (Division of Urology, The University of Texas Medical School at Houston) and a team of Chinese and international scholars dedicated in the clinical and basic medical researchers in renal, urological, and reproductive diseases and interdisciplinary fields, which helps to build a unique platform for academic exchange on renal and andrological diseases. This journal is designated for Chinese and international healthcare professionals in nephrology, urology, andrology, and pathology doctors and scientists. It focuses on reporting the scientific advancements and clinical expertise on renal and andrological diseases, basic theoretical researches, as well as on introducing the latest treatment, surgical methods and medical device operations. Several columns, such as Clinical Research, Experimental Research, Clinical Report, Review, Case Report, Expert's Voice, and Drugs and Clinic, are designed for this journal for a more comprehensive collection of papers and articles.
The development of a discipline requires sharing, discussing, understanding and tolerating different opinions and ideas. The goal of Journal of Integrative Renal and Andrology is to provide a platform for academic exchange for Chinese and western medical practitioners, with involvement and equal emphasis on both western and traditional Chinese medicine.
Journal of Integrative Nephrology and Andrology has received great support from our directors and colleagues, and we would like to express our sincere gratitude. We are motivated that this journal would become a domestically and internationally-recognized key academic journal in nephrology and andrology in the future. We hereby deliver our heartfelt hope for a better future, an acceptance by the readers, and promise to do our best part in promoting the communication of western and traditional Chinese medicine in nephrology and andrology.
